Terms & Conditions of Placement
When you buy a puppy, it is so much more than a purchase. It is a lifetime commitment, one, I hope, that you will find well worth it. As your puppy's breeder, I am also committed to your dog after s/he leaves my care. I do not bring dogs into the world casually (there are already far too many unwanted animals), and I believe it is my responsiblilty to be there for you and your dog for as long as the dog lives. Because my primary concern is the well-being of the dog, I am quite selective in my placement practices. I will only place dogs in homes that agree to all of the following:
1. If the dog cannot be kept--for any reason--it is returned to Dreamworks. If you have another home in mind for the dog, you must clear it with me first, because I want to approve the new family.
2. The dog must receive all annual inoculations, periodic worm medicine, etc.-- whatever your veterinarian advises. The dog must receive any necessary veterinary treatment, whether for accident or illness, routine or emergency.
3. You must let me know if any condition arises that affects the dog's health. All documentation for such claims must be shared with me and my veterinarian, with final determination made by the appropriate recognized authority (such as OFA or CERF). This is very important to me as a conscientious breeder who must take into consideration any hereditary problems.
4. You must agree to have the dog's hips OFA certified at the age of two. Also, remember, I guarantee eyes to be free from PRA, and will refund your puppy's purchase price, less deposit, with appropriate CERF documentation. Copies of eye exams or hip x-ray reports should always be sent to me.
5. The puppy MUST receive basic obedience training. Even if you are a great trainer, all puppies benefit from formal classes--they provide needed socialization, and facilitate the bonding process. I encourage puppy buyers to aspire to passing the AKC Canine Good Citizen test.
6. The puppy must be provided for in your will, so that if something happens to you, the dog will be cared for.
7. The puppy will receive permanent identification by the age of one year (tattoo or microchip.)
8. I must have an annual report on the dog, with at least one photograph. This can be in the form of a Christmas card with a brief update, but I would like to know where and how the dog is. If you relocate or change your phone number, you must let me know your new home address and home phone number.
9. All buyers must sign a purchase agreement (contract) prior to the puppy's release and prior to the release of the puppy's AKC registration. All puppies bred by Ricki Foulds will have Dreamworks as the first word in the AKC registered name, and all AKC registered names will be selected by Ricki Foulds, or approved by her.
10. The puppy will always receive love and affection, and live as a valued member of your family.
NOTE: Buying a puppy sold for a "pet" price means you will spay or neuter the dog and that it will be Limited Registered with the AKC. I suggest that you have the neutering done after the age of six months, but by one year of age. Buyers who purchase a puppy at the show price should understand that they are making a commitment to show the dog at AKC dog shows with the intent to gain his/her AKC championship title, and will be required to exhibit the dog at least 10 times by the age of 3.
If you have any questions on these terms and conditions, please call me to discuss them. I realize that the requirements may seem a little demanding, but please understand that they are meant to ensure the safety and well-being of the dogs.
